This one gets e-mail to arenanet

E-mail it to [email protected]. About 50 copies have already been e-mailed by friends and guild members.

Subject: Ruined economy and farming.

Dear Arenanet,

I have been a huge fan of guild wars for the past few months. I have supported every patch you guys have made. Until recently.

Im a farmer. I collect items and salvage them or sell them for money. Thats what I do. Its how I make money. With the recent patches, you guys have as good as completely stripped the farming community. Giants drop absolute crap, Siege Ice Golems drop badges, drakes drop nothing. You have nerfed all the farming runs. Why? I'm a paying customer and I feel we deserve the right to farm and collect rare items to sell for a profit.

Whats worse, is that the economy is collapsing. You can sell a steel ingot for 50g now, and a silver dye for 90g. They used to be worth WAY more then that. You need to implement a system that makes the items more common, and at the same time raising the prices of these items. The economy is deeply inflated, and people are becoming poorer and poorer. Its hard to make a profit when all the ways to do it have been destroyed.

Also, you have made it nearly impossible to run to droknar. Hundreds of wurms around the tunnel, enless ammounts of grawl, more traps, arcanists implemented into various new spots. Why? Don't ask me. Isn't it the gamers choice if they want to skip the missions? Its their loss.

Please consider making drops better again, and making lornars less hard. The economy is collapsing, and you have the power to fix it. Multiple copies of this e-mail will be sent from the guildwars community. Enjoy

Sincerely,
A Guild Wars Fanatic.

This is in ALL HONESTY a Cry me a RIVER letter......and will achieve nothing let alone stir some thought in Dev's heads.

Sorry, dont mean to be crude, but a better letter needs to be written IMO

Write one then. I was extremely pissed when I wrote this one, so it could be negatively biased. *shrugs*

Lol - you want items MORE accessible, but the prices HIGER?

Have you even looked at an economics text?

The fact is that the value of items entering the game will be roughly constant - if more gold enters than do items, gold will be low-value, items will be worth much gold. If they cut back on supply, demand will go up. Nerfing farming RAISES prices, because the NPCs have supplies based on what is sold to them.

I'll say this much:

Anet has to make up their mind. Either they want to encourage the progressive accumulation of things or they don't. Don't make big goals like 15k armour and fissure and such without making feasible ways to get them. You either encourage farming or you encourage other ways to get them, not a weird position of no farming but farming being necessary.

1) Reducing availability of items hurts legit PvE playing.
2) Reducing drops of gold increases the value of gold in the game.
3) Botters will always have an advantage if time must be invested to get things - the only way to defeat botters is to make it so that time spent doesn't get you things - if you do that there will be no botting.
4) To make it so that time spent doesn't reward you need to have all items available through questing essentially - maybe long/difficult quests, and maybe only have the reward available once per player - but if there were an outpost that was in the southern shiverpeaks for example, which granted one of several cool armour types as a reward, but had a party limit of 4 - you would find it tough to do, and those who accomplish it will have the armour. Not a matter of time, but skill. No runs to collect shards, no gold based economy, just whether you can put a group of half the size together and do something tough.

You will need LOTS of quests like that to replace grinding, but it could be done. The unfortunate part is that the crafting system, the collectors to some extent and the gold being used as a tradable resource encourage farming/botting. If you don't want tit you need to redesign the game so that gold isn't relevant. So that items aren't dropped, as that is merely the same philosophy - spend time killing to get stuff. It stresses the time spent, and encourages solo play. If you want to discourage that the enemies need to be worth the same XP regardless of the number in the party, the drops should be no better when alone, and in fact a drop-based system sshould be abandoned. If you want a drop based system, and wish to reward the tougher play with fewer party members, you have virtually no choice but invest in a farming/grinding mentality, as drops themselves cause the problem of farming.

or make noobs quit, leaveing the game to the experts and the die hards, which you would prefer, viet?

everybodys noobie can and sometimes does, become sombodies veterain, given some time, some help , a couple of words of wisdom and a little room to grow.
drive people away now and your game world will become twisted and bitter.

(still, reading the letter, i think it might make them nerf *harder*... better not to say
'i am a farmer, i farm items to sell for profits' and instead say
' i farm, mostly for salvage and for the thrill of what drops i can find, which is MY kind of fun'
since they are nerfing farming areas EXACTLY for the reason that people are farming for re-sale and profits...if you get what i am driving at...your telling them that, as a profit farmer, their nerfing is puting you out of buisness, which is their WHOLE point lol)
